About Us

Countless praise is due to Allah (SWT) who blessed us with the gift of Islam. Islam is a perfect way of life and suitable for all times and places. Along with peace, harmony and tranquility, it offers humanity an easy guideline towards the ultimate success of this world and the Hereafter. To achieve this, educational gardens are needed in which the seeds of today have a chance to blossom into the flowers of tomorrow. There is no doubt that knowledge is the first step towards human development. The desire to establish a Darul Uloom (an institute of higher learning) in Stanger began with the visit of Hadhrat Shaikh Zakariyya (R.A) in 1981. This great saint was flooded with invitations from dozens of cities all over the world to be their guest for Ramadan, but Allah Ta’ala destined for him to accept the invitation of a town in the North Coast of Natal, known as Stanger. This event inscribed the name of Stanger on the spiritual map of the world forever. Ever since the visit of Hadhrat Shaikh Zakariyya (R.A) and his dua for establishing institutes of higher learning, Hadhrat Moulana Ismail Desai Saheb (DB) made a firm conviction to establish such an institute in Stanger.

With this concern in mind, by the grace of Allah (SWT), this desire was eventually realised many years later with the profound ambition of Hadhrat Moulana Ismail Desai (DB) and well-wishes to establish this institute of higher learning in Stanger. Even though the seed was sown almost three decades earlier, the Darul Uloom blossomed in 2009 (1430 AH) under the patronage of Hadhrat Moulana Ismail Desai (DB) and ever since then, the Darul Uloom has been making an earnest attempt to provide authentic Islamic education in an Islamic environment for all ages and people with the sole intention to please Allah Ta’ala.

The Darul Uloom was named “Jamiah Arabiah Islamiah” and is situated in Stanger (Kwa Dukuza), approx. 70 kilometers from Durban in the Province of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. The Madrassah also serves the international Muslim world through its websites on the internet and its publications. The articles published by the Madrassah have been published via its websites www.myislam.co.za and www.islamiah.co.za.

May Allah Ta'ala accept the efforts of its founders, well-wishers and contributors, Aameen.

At the Darul-Uloom we make every effort to provide a nurturing environment in which one will not only excel in education but will also be expected to follow the Sunnah of our Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) as closely as possible. We strongly believe that education is the shared responsibility of the Institute, students, families and the surrounding community.

The aim and objective of the Jamiah is to prepare individuals to be guided and governed by the spiritual and ethical values of Islam so that there is a positive effect on their actions, decisions and approach in life. Throughout Islamic history, Muslim scholars applied themselves to this course, embodied its message in them and passed it on to the succeeding generations. Now, that trust and responsibility lies on our shoulders until we pass it on to the succeeding generation.

The mission of the Jamiah is to propagate Islam in its pristine form to the four corners of the World, according to the teachings of the Qur'an and Hadith.

May Allah aid us in our goals to provide service and knowledge as well as efforts in producing 'Ulamaa and Huffaaz. May He also accept the efforts of those who have strived in making Jamiah Arabiah Islamiah successful in it's aims. Aameen
